Citrus Orchard Spray Automation: S500Pro Live Demo in Argentina

Why Lemon Orchards Demand a Smarter Sprayer

Citrus orchards—especially lemon groves—present a unique set of challenges. Dense canopies, thorny branches, and irregular tree spacing make uniform coverage difficult. Over‑spraying wastes chemicals and risks fruit residues. Under‑spraying leaves pests a safe harbour.

Recently, Lanjiang Technology took the S500Pro autonomous sprayer to a lemon orchard in Argentina for a live field demonstration. The goal was simple: test whether an autonomous sprayer for citrus trees could navigate tight rows and deliver consistent coverage where conventional machines struggle.

Lanjiang Technology’s autonomous sprayer family includes three models—S450, S500Pro, and S1000—each sharing core intelligent spraying technology but built for different orchard scales and navigation requirements.

S500Pro Tackles Dense Lemon Canopies in Argentina

The Argentine lemon grove featured rows approximately 2.5 metres apart, with trees reaching just over 3 metres—conditions that often confuse standard GPS-guided equipment. The S500Pro, however, navigated without difficulty.

Its multi-sensor navigation system (LiDAR + vision + mmWave radar + RTK) maintained centimetre-level positioning even under heavy foliage. The robot moved smoothly between rows, turned automatically at row ends, and never brushed against branches.

Local growers observing the demo noted two immediate advantages:

  • No driver required – the robot operated entirely autonomously after route setting
  • Minimal soil disturbance – its lightweight electric chassis left no deep ruts, unlike heavy tractor-mounted sprayers

Adaptive Spraying for Dense Canopies

The standout feature during the Argentina demo was the adaptive spraying system. The S500Pro automatically adjusts spray output based on real-time travel speed—slower in dense sections for thorough coverage, faster in sparse gaps to avoid waste.

Additionally, the single-side start/stop control allowed the operator to shut off nozzles facing empty rows or gaps between trees. For lemon orchards with irregular plantings, this capability directly addresses the common problem of chemical drift beyond the target row.

This is adaptive spraying for dense canopies in practice—not a theoretical concept, but a working solution observed in an actual Argentine lemon grove.

What Type of Orchard Do You Grow?

The S500Pro is part of a broader product family. Lanjiang Technology currently offers three autonomous sprayer models, each designed for different orchard scales, row configurations, and operational needs. Understanding the differences is the first step to choosing the right machine.

  • S450 – The Reliable Foundation Model

The S450 is our entry-level autonomous sprayer. It is built for growers who need consistent, repeatable spraying without the complexity of advanced environmental perception.

  • S500Pro – The Versatile Mid-Range Workhorse

The S500Pro is our most popular model, designed for orchards with 2–3 metre row spacing and trees up to 3 metres tall.

  • S1000 – The Flagship for Large Orchards

The S1000 is our top-tier model, built for larger acreages and open orchards, with a spray radius of 20–35 metres wide and 6–12 metres high—suitable for tall, broad-crown trees.

We invite you to share your orchard parameters—row spacing, tree height, canopy density, and total area—and we will recommend the model that best matches your conditions.

See It in Action – Or Let’s Talk Online

The Argentina lemon orchard demo confirmed what earlier trials in Moldova and South Africa had already suggested: the S500Pro is a reliable orchard sprayer for fruit trees across diverse geographies and crop types.
