Recently, Lanjiang Technology’s flagship product, the S500Pro, completed a field demonstration in a wine-grape vineyard in Italy and was invited to showcase at a local agricultural exhibition.
As we all know, not all vineyards are flat. Many vineyards are planted on slopes, where the terrain presents real challenges for machinery. That is exactly why we recently took the S500Pro to a winery vineyard in Italy – to see how it handles steep inclines, narrow rows, and the practical concerns of local growers.
The setting was a working Italian vineyard with 2‑meter row spacing, vines pruned to about 2 meters in height, and slopes ranging from 18 to 20 degrees. These conditions are typical for many premium wine regions, but they also test the limits of any sprayer.
The Concern Before the Demo
Before testing began, the organizer raised a key concern: “Will this machine make it up that slope with a full tank?”
It was a fair question. Weight shifts on inclines, traction changes, and many sprayers struggle even on moderate grades. We did not promise anything beyond what the machine was designed for – we simply suggested we try it.
What Actually Happened
With the tank filled to capacity, the S500Pro started its climb. It moved steadily up the 18‑20° incline without slipping, stalling, or losing stability. The operator followed alongside on foot, and the robot completed the entire row, turned at the headland, and came back down – all under manual supervision.
The performance was consistent: the spray pattern remained uniform, the wheels maintained grip, and the slope did not affect navigation accuracy.
We did not claim it could climb a mountain – but on this specific vineyard slope, with these conditions, it worked as intended. That is the kind of result we prefer to show rather than promise.
The event drew about fifteen people – neighbours and potential buyers alike. When the robot completed its run, a few of them stepped forward to inspect it. Their attention went straight to the tracks, the remaining fluid level, and the overall build. They asked thoughtful, practical questions – not just about price, but about upkeep, reliability, and how it would fit into their existing workflow.
The S500Pro is not built for extreme off‑road work. But it handled the 20° slopes without trouble – thanks to a stable tracked chassis and a reliable electric drive. Both are straightforward design choices that make sense for hilly vineyards.
